The national park protects an area of almost 198 km² with hundreds of kilometres of marked hiking trails, often fitted with ladders, chains and footbridges – ideal for adventurers as well as families with children. Famous viewpoints such as the nearby Tomášovský výhľad and the gorges of Veľký and Malý Sokol offer unforgettable panoramas and moments to pause. Legendary ravines include Prielom Hornádu, Suchá Belá, Kyseľ and Piecky. As for biodiversity – it truly is a paradise, with hundreds of plant and animal species, including rare birds, bats and large mammals.

Hiking options range from easy walks to technical via ferrata routes – suitable for all levels. Our top tips include Tomášovský výhľad, Suchá Belá, Piecky, Prielom Hornádu and Kyseľ. As a bonus, there are many cycling routes, for example the popular trail Hrabušice – Spišské Tomášovce – Smižany. Our restaurant is a favourite stop for cyclists on sunny days. Rock climbing here is particularly attractive – the rock walls offer routes for climbers of all levels. In the nearby area you will find many cultural and historical landmarks – Spiš Castle, Levoča, Kežmarok, Markušovce – perfect for day trips.

Important
If you are planning to go hiking, don’t forget sturdy waterproof boots, a raincoat and, in colder weather, warm layers. The mountains can surprise you with sudden weather changes, so it is better to be prepared.
We also recommend taking out mountain insurance (for example HZS insurance), which covers mountain rescue interventions and costs related to unexpected events or injuries: HZS insurance
Always remember that in the National Park it is forbidden to move, camp and bivouac outside the marked hiking trails and places. All hiking trails, gorges and cycle routes are open all year round. Passing through gorges is only allowed upwards, i.e. against the direction of the stream.
